Aligning the Strategy with the Mission
Once Sager Electronics, a national distributor of electronic
components, aligned its strategy with its Mission, Practical Strategic Planning indicated the need for employees to integrate
the new strategy with their job functions.
Creating Employee Participation
Sager's Human Resources Department teamed with Cramer Advertising
of Norwood, MA.to develop an internal branding campaign to gain every employee's participation in, and commitment to, the
new strategy.
Turning Participation into Ownership
Themed "What's Your Piece of the Puzzle?", the campaign involved
a video that communicated the new corporate mission in an entertaining way, and a series of departmental workshops that were
led by department heads starting with the CEO and his direct reports and "cascading" down throughout the entire organization.
In each workshop, the department discovered its role in making
the new strategy successful. At the end of the workshop each department adopted a "task" that related to the implementation
of the new strategy that it would track and report on at the end of the year.
The campaign involved over 40 different workshops, conducted nationwide,
and took seven months to complete. As a result, every employee was exposed to the new strategy and took ownership of
it through a demonstrable activity.
